Air fryers often appear in seasonal sales, but capacity and cleaning effort determine whether a model earns space on your countertop. A low price is not helpful if the basket is too small for your household.
Size for the meals you actually cook
Compare usable basket area rather than only the advertised quart rating. Flat cooking surface can matter when arranging food in one layer. Large households may benefit from wider or dual-basket designs, but larger units take more storage space.
Measure the appliance footprint
Check height, width, depth, and the clearance required for airflow. Confirm that cabinet doors, backsplash, and outlets will not interfere. A model that is difficult to move or store may become less convenient than expected.
Choose controls you will use
Digital presets are convenient but not essential for everyone. Consider adjustable temperature, timers, shake reminders, preheat behavior, and ease of reading controls. Avoid paying for modes that duplicate appliances you already own.
Plan for cleaning
Look at basket construction, removable trays, nonstick care instructions, and whether parts are dishwasher-safe according to the manufacturer. A dishwasher-safe label does not mean every finish will tolerate abrasive cleaning. Check the official care guide.
Review heat and safety features
Make sure there is a stable surface and sufficient clearance. Features such as automatic shutoff and cool-touch handles may be useful, but proper use still requires following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Compare energy and convenience realistically
Air fryers can be convenient for smaller batches, but performance and efficiency depend on the food, appliance, and cooking method. Do not assume every model cooks faster than an oven in every situation.
Calculate the actual value
Compare capacity, warranty, cleanability, and total price of two or three units. If buying a bundle, ask whether you will use every accessory. Review return terms before giving an unfamiliar appliance as a gift.
Bottom line: Prioritize usable capacity and cleanup. Those two factors are often more important than the number of preset buttons.
