TV listings can be especially confusing during big sale events. Size and an “HDR” label are not enough to tell you whether two screens are comparable. Start with your room, your content, and the exact model.
Choose screen size for your space
Measure the wall or stand and the distance from the main seating position. Consider sightlines and whether the television will fit through doors and stairways. A screen that is too large for the room or too small for the viewing distance may not be satisfying.
Know the main panel tradeoffs
OLED screens provide pixel-level light control and can deliver deep black levels, while LCD-based TVs can differ widely in backlighting and brightness. Mini-LED describes a backlight approach rather than a separate display panel type. Evaluate the complete model and viewing environment.
Do not assume all HDR is equal
An HDR format logo tells you about compatibility, not necessarily high brightness or strong contrast. Look for independent evaluations of peak brightness, local dimming, reflection handling, and how movies look in both dark and bright rooms.
Check native refresh rate and ports
Gaming buyers should verify native refresh rate, variable refresh rate support, input lag, and which HDMI ports support the desired features. A prominent “motion rate” marketing figure is not the same as native panel refresh.
Account for sound and connectivity
Built-in speakers may be adequate, but some setups benefit from a soundbar. Check eARC/ARC compatibility, stand width, mounting requirements, Wi-Fi, streaming platform, and remote controls.
Compare exact model numbers
A promotional TV may use a retailer-specific suffix or variant. Do not treat two listings as identical without checking the manufacturer specifications. Product age and warranty coverage also matter.
Calculate total installed cost
Include wall mount, cables, delivery, installation, removal of an old set, tax, and extended warranty only if justified. Check the retailer’s return policy for oversized televisions before ordering.
Bottom line: For a TV, the right panel, room fit, and complete installed cost matter more than the advertised percent off.
